2007 Fishing Reports

 

June  24

The morning trip saw picky fluke action with fish to 5 lbs along with a bunch of bluefish. The afternoon trip was a slow pick at best.

June 22

Horrible conditions forced us to stay in the channel, but we hammered the schoolie bass and a keeper of about 12 lbs.

June 21

Slow pick on the jigging grounds today, but had blues to 12 lbs and keeper bass to 25 lbs.

June 19

The Dettling family came out today for a mixed bag trip. The boys worked hard and they ended up with 5 keeper fluke, 16 blues, and 4 keeper bass.

June 18

Had a half-day chunking trip today with steady action. Caught plenty of blues, some short bass, and three keepers made it to the cooler.
 

June 17

Today's am trip started off with a slow pick of fluke to 4 lbs. Hit the jigging grounds at the end of the trip and found great action with schoolies, blues, and 7 keeper Bass.
The pm trip had plenty of fluke action with some keepers to 4 lbs. Hit some bluefish as well --a happy father's day for all!

June 16

On today's half day charter the McNeill clan bailed the fluke and limited out with 20 keepers to 6 pounds! Took a couple of drifts on the jigging grounds at the end of the trip, had great action with bluefish and schoolies--the boys put 3 keeper Bass in the box.

This afternoon's trip started off strong with plenty of fluke action and a nice shot of keepers to 4 3/4 lbs. The bite dropped off when the wind picked up but the blues and the short bass kept the rods bending.

June 9&10

The Sat pm trip saw a great group of out-of-towners crush the porgies to 3 lbs! Afterwards, we switched over to fluking for a few drifts and had solid action with fish to 4 lbs.
On Sunday afternoon it was quality over quantity with fluking--some nice flatties to 6 lbs came over the rails.
This week we will be hitting some chunking spots for Bass...a nice bite seems to be in the works.

June 8

Today's 1/2 day trip was a little picky at first, but the action picked up as the trip progressed. The boys worked the bucktails hard and were rewarded with keepers to 4.5 lbs in the box. Had an awesome time with these guys today--the laughs were nonstop!

 
 
June 6

Today's am trip saw some snotty conditions, but we caught some nice keeper fluke to 5.5 lbs. Switched over to scup and bailed them--limiting out with some jumbos over the 3 lb mark. The 12 to 4:30 trip brought solid fluke action for the kids with fish to 4.5 lbs. Plenty of shorts and some schoolie bass kept these first time bucktailers busy!

June 2&3

Saturday's am trip saw plenty of action, but due to poor fluking conditions, we had to work for the keepers. In the pm, the results were the same with fish to 4 lbs. Today's am trip saw solid action with fluke to 4 3/4 lbs along with blues and schoolie bass. The kids outfished the adults this weekend!

May 31

Had am and pm open boat trips today. Not the greatest drifting conditions out there, but we picked away on both trips with keepers and plenty of shorts on bucktails and meat rigs. Congratulations Mark on your 7.2 lb Fluke!
 

May 29

On the 12 to 4:30 charter today we saw some super action with Fluke. We had 14 keepers to 5 1/4 lbs on bucktails, lots of shorts, and quite a few bluefish as well. An exciting day for the folks visiting from Missouri!
 

May 27

An excellent half day trip today with the solid bite continuing!! 6 fares put 22 keepers to 6 lbs in the box. Quite a few fish were in the 4-5 lb range and the shorts kept us busy too. All fish were caught on bucks. Folks if you want to experience some great fluking, now is the time!
 

May26

Whacked 'em good on the 6:30 to 11 trip today. Nonstop action on the bucks; limited out with fish to 5 3/4 lbs. The 12 to 4:30 trip saw solid action with plenty of shorts and some nice keepers to 4 1/2 lbs along with a couple of bluefish to 5 lbs. Until tomorrow....

May 25

Had a 1/2 day trip today--a little picky in the beginning, but the second half of the trip the bite turned on. There was plenty of action and we limited out with fish to 5 lbs. Caught a mess of jumbo scup on our fluke rigs as well, and yes they were all released. The great fluke bite continues.

May 23

Had a 12:30-5:00 trip today--had a very solid bite until the wind blew up. Bucktails and meat rigs both worked well. See some of the keepers the boys brought home in the photo gallery...

 
May 22

Got out on a half-day trip today. It started out slow, but a couple hours into the flood tide, the bite turned on. We limited out with fish to 5 1/4 lbs. Bucks and teasers were on the menu today! Call for reservations 631-821-1692!

May 20

Got out on a half day trip today--lots of action! 12 keepers to 5 3/4 lbs and 30-40 18 to 19" shorts. Standard fluke rigs did the trick.Weather looks great for the rest of the week-now is the time to get in on the bite!

I wanted to thank everyone at the Smithtown Bay Yacht Club for attending my seminar. Great turn-out and I hope you had as good a time as I did!

May 13

Saturday's half day trip saw solid action on the Fluke grounds with fish to 4.5 lbs with some schoolie Bass and Bluefish as well. Bucktails and spearing were the ticket. On today's half day morning trip we were forced to fish the bay due to snotty conditions. It was a tough pick, but everyone brought home a keeper for Mother's Day dinner! The biggest fish was 4 lbs.

May 10

Went out on a half day trip today and A.P. had the boat all to herself--The trip saw excellent action with a limit catch to 4 3/4 lbs for her and 1 fish shy of limit for me. We also had around 25 shorts, some schoolie Bass and Bluefish as well.

Tons of bait in the area--let's get it on!
 
May 8

Crew trip today--birds lots of bait at various depths and had solid action with Fluke and schoolie Bass. It's time folks!
 
May 5
Tough Fluking again but more bait in the area. It should break wide open any day now. And yes, the flounder saved the day again, with fish to 2 lbs.
 
May 3
Tough Floundering today but had fish to 1.25 lbs on mussels
 
May 1
Slow Fluking but caught some Flounder and schoolie Bass for some action.
 
April 29
Same exact results as yesterday but saw more bait in the water today.
 
April 28
Hit some Fluke spots today and worked it hard for 2 shorts. Hit the Flounder on the way home and had fish to 2 lbs.
 
April 20-27
Blackfishing has been very tough with only a few shorts on each trip. However,  Flounder have been saving the day as folks are able to catch a few for dinner.
 
April 5

Hello everyone. The 2007 season will begin for the LORI C. on April 20th. We will be sailing for Blackfish and Flounder until the Fluke season is announced, at which time we will switch over immediately to Fluking.
